Certified Music Practitioner, Composer, and Integrative Care Practitioner
I've heard music in my head all of my life. I've been scoring every encounter, every scenario, every season of my life since I can remember my life. It didn't surprise anyone that at the age of 3 I wanted to learn to play the piano, but my mother tells me my piano teacher wouldn't take me until the age of 5. That's when I began my lifelong love affair with the piano. Many years later I would actually become a composer of music for film and television. The act of bringing a visual world to life through music satisfied a need in me to fill in the cracks of the universe with the energy it seemed to be missing. But somehow it never met my own personal need and desire to express and know myself, until I discovered the inner world of therapeutic music.
The intentional act of the creation of music as a healing tool is something that seems to take place in the "space between". What is the "space between" you may ask? A good question. The "space between" is the field of energy that exists between you and me. Its the very real place where human connections are made. Its the reason you feel a "good" or "bad" feeling about someone. Its the reason you are drawn into the people and things that attract you. And when the energy and vibration of music is born from a place of peaceful, loving intention a healing space is created. The great philosopher Rumi called it "the field". The maverick physicist Rupert Sheldrake calls it "the morphic field". Jesus called it "heaven on earth". And all that is required to find it is a willingness; a willingness to listen, to be present, to be open, to just be. For a little while. No commitment, no responsibility, just being. It's at that level of being that we all have something in common. We are all human and we all possess the innate ability to recognize both the humanity and the divinity in all of us, if we will only look. As a therapeutic musician, I build space and fill it with the sound of human connection, the building block of all of life's experiences.
